Not sure which version of Danny Brown to expect, the raucous Glasgow crowd erupts when he eventually emerges on to the stage, throws off his jacket and salutes the crowd with his famous toothy grin.

The last few weeks have been tumultuous to say the least for Brown, one of hip-hops breakout stars of 2013. After tweeting a series of messages about his anxiety and depression, where he alluded to suicide, he left an interview with the Guardian halfway through and had to apologise for humiliating another.

After Vic Mensa’s superb opening set however, there was a palpable sense of relief in the air as he turned up in high spirits. When the beats are as high-octane as this, its hard not to be.

His hype man and DJ, SKYWALKR, provided a perfect warmup for Brown’s entrance, giving an idea of what to expect as ran through a series of dubstep and trap hits, two of the genres which have the most influence on Brown’s music.

The songs were perfect for the crowd in attendance, who probably averaged at about 19/20 years of age. It seemed like every third person was wearing a fake supreme hat and a backpack, but if not for originality the crowd couldn’t be faulted for their enthusiasm.

15 minutes late, Brown rattled through club hits from his last two albums ‘XXX’ and ‘Old’, with ‘I Will’ and ‘Blunt After Blunt’ getting the biggest reactions. The latter prompted the most energy from the crowd, as Brown stuck his tongue out in glee while the refrain was belted out. Finishing with party anthem ‘Dip’, he started to miss words just as the crowd started to fizzle out. An adrenaline dump from the early mosh-pit was clear.

The set ended abruptly, this time about ten minutes early, but this had to be pointed out to me,and I could tell you no one else in my vicinity was disappointed with the energetic half hour or so he had given us.

Timekeeping aside, a live performance from Danny Brown isn't likely to leave you feeling short-changed.
